Watershed 2.0 Projection Mapping Project was exhibited at Krewe of Vaporwave Opera in the Piazza d’Italia in New Orleans, LA. Growing from the original vision of the Watershed 1.0, we took visual elements and themes of the project and pushed them further by adding new elements to the concept utilizing new faculty and student members’ thoughts and processes. Students gathered video and sound data from the Appalachian region and worked as a team to create a 3D, fractured vision of rural Virginia. Watershed moves between glimpses of river footage, light, and animation. This collaborative projection-mapped installation offers a meditative and fragmented reflection on environment, industry, floods, rupture, and transformation in the rural Appalachian South. The juxtaposition of visual representations of these issues asked viewers to think about their relationships in new ways.
As Creative Director, I designed and produced the 3D shape of the 15 x 25 foot piece, guided students’ contribution to the work, and facilitated the logistics of installation at the Piazza d’Italia.
Collaborators: Lesley Duffield, Nate King, Rachel Weaver, Tacie Jones, Carter Eggleston, David Franusich, Vasia Ampatzi.
