World16 is a global research consortium dedicated to immersive technology, where sixteen experts from around the world collaborate on the future of real-time 3D visualization and virtual environments. Organized by Japanese tech company FORUM8, the group meets annually at rotating international sites to share research, lead workshops, and push the boundaries of immersive design. Each gathering focuses on a specific theme—from urban simulation and projection mapping to blockchain integration and sensory VR—offering members hands-on experience with the latest tools, including LIDAR scanning, point cloud integration, physical tracking systems, and scent-based feedback.
Since joining in 2009, I’ve contributed to research initiatives across institutions like MIT, the University of Pisa, and Victoria University of Wellington. These experiences have not only advanced my own studio practice, but also enabled me to bring cutting-edge training back to my students, preparing them for interdisciplinary collaborations and industry opportunities. The World16 Group remains a key part of my research identity—blending technology, design, and international exchange to explore new dimensions of immersive experience.
