I was awarded a competitive 2-week Joan Mitchell residency (open only to Joan Mitchell grant recipients) to work on a personal project mapping box project. While there, I completed work on a projection mapping project based on my previous research that focused on fusing 3D animation with concept drawings. I layered sculptural forms, projection mapping and interactive sound design into one interactive cohesive unit. I projected multilayered animation cycles onto complex sculptural pieces that hang off a wall using software packages like MadMapper, MAX/Jitter/MSP and Maya. The project was completed with an installation at the Joan Residency Gallery where I hung the units together off the wall to create multi-sided surfaces to project on. The sound Tohm Judson produced for the piece was a combination of granular and cellular automation (i.e. Conway’s Game of Life) based on tracking guests’ movements within the installation space.
